Omega Centauri is a huge group of stars. It is the biggest star group in our galaxy.
Scientists thought this star group had many black holes hiding inside it. A black hole is a place in space with very strong pulling force.
For a long time, nobody could find any black holes there. Now, scientists found the first one.
They used two space telescopes, Hubble and James Webb, together. They watched a star moving in a strange way. Something invisible and heavy was pulling it. That something is a black hole.

Omega Centauri is the largest globular star cluster in the Milky Way, home to millions of stars packed closely together.
For decades, astronomers believed this cluster should contain thousands of black holes left behind by exploding stars, but clear evidence of them had always been missing.
Now, a team of astronomers has confirmed the first one. They combined more than 20 years of data from the Hubble Space Telescope with new observations from the James Webb Space Telescope.
By carefully tracking the tiny movements of stars over many years, the team found a star orbiting something invisible and extremely heavy, proof that it must be a black hole. Scientists have named it oMEGACat BH-2.

That gap has now been narrowed. By sifting through more than two decades of archival Hubble Space Telescope data and pairing it with fresh observations from the James Webb Space Telescope, an international team has confirmed the cluster's first stellar-mass black hole.
The key technique was astrometry, the precise measurement of tiny stellar movements across years of imaging. Researchers identified a star tracing an orbit around an object so massive and yet so completely invisible that only a black hole could explain it.
The newly confirmed object, designated oMEGACat BH-2, represents just the beginning of what researchers expect will be a much larger hunt, one that could meaningfully refine theories of how black holes form and accumulate within dense stellar environments like globular clusters.

The decisive technique was astrometry, the exacting measurement of minute stellar displacements accumulated across years of imaging, through which researchers isolated a star tracing an orbit around an object simultaneously massive enough and utterly invisible enough that only a black hole could account for it.
Designated oMEGACat BH-2, the object is regarded by its discoverers as merely the vanguard of a far larger population awaiting detection, one whose eventual census could substantially refine prevailing theories of how black holes form and accumulate within the crowded gravitational environments of globular clusters.
