
A new study published in the journal Science reports evidence that the ancestors of modern humans interbred with two previously unknown extinct human relatives, in addition to Neanderthals and Denisovans. Neither group has ever been identified in the fossil record. Scientists found the evidence only by studying patterns hidden inside the DNA of people alive today.
