Researchers at the University of Nottingham have developed a fluoride-free gel that can rebuild damaged tooth enamel, the hard outer layer of teeth that the body cannot naturally repair once it is lost. Published in Nature Communications, the gel copies the biological process that forms enamel in infancy, and the team has launched a start-up, Mintech-Bio, aiming to bring a product to market as early as next year.
